The domestic refined oil price adjustment window is set to open on the 9th of this month, following a rise in international crude oil prices. The new pricing will take effect at the start of the morning on the 10th.
Market analysts have observed that since the last retail price cut on April 25, global crude oil prices have surged significantly. However, during the May Day holiday period, market sentiment turned negative, leading to a sharp drop in prices. This trend reversed by May 3, when the U.S. Labor Department released strong non-farm payroll data for April, showing a much better-than-expected performance and an unemployment rate that hit a four-year low. This news pushed oil prices higher once again.
According to data from Treasure Island, as of the seventh working day of May 6, the average price of major crude oil benchmarks—Brent, Brent Dtd, Dubai, and ESPO—stood at $101.58 per barrel, reflecting a 1.14% increase.
Treasure Island analyst Han Jingyuan noted that due to temporary fluctuations in crude oil prices, the domestic refined oil market is expected to remain stable. However, considering the recent upward trend in crude oil prices after a brief decline, it is likely that gasoline and diesel prices will see an increase of approximately RMB 60–90 per tonne. This would translate to a per-liter price increase of about 0.04 to 0.07 yuan for gasoline and 0.05 to 0.08 yuan for diesel.
Zhongyu Consulting analyst Wang Jintao also pointed out that with current international crude oil prices and short-term volatility, the domestic retail price of refined products may not be adjusted on May 10, or if it is, the change could be limited to within 100 yuan per tonne. As the market continues to monitor global supply and demand dynamics, consumers should expect potential adjustments in the coming weeks.
