Precautions when installing gas pressure regulator
**Precautions for the Installation of Gas Pressure Regulating Cabinets**
Gas pressure regulating cabinets and pressure regulating stations are essential components in gas transmission and distribution systems. They are widely used in residential areas, public service facilities, direct combustion equipment, gas boilers, industrial furnaces, and other applications that require stable and safe gas supply. Proper installation and operation are crucial to ensure system efficiency and user safety.
(1) When setting the pressure, always follow the principle of starting from high to low, step by step: first, close the pressure; then release it; finally, set the working pressure. This method helps avoid sudden pressure changes that could damage the system or cause accidents.
(2) After the pressure is adjusted, it is important to check the closing pressure to verify the regulator’s performance and ensure it meets the required specifications. This step confirms that the device can safely shut off when needed.
(3) The outlet valve should only be opened once the pressure has been properly set. Opening it prematurely may lead to unexpected pressure surges and potential hazards.
(4) Care must be taken to protect precision instruments from pressure fluctuations, which can cause damage or inaccurate readings. Always handle these devices with care during installation and operation.
(5) When operating voltage-regulating equipment, if an uninterrupted gas supply is required, a bypass should be manually controlled to maintain continuous flow. One hand should remain on the pressure regulating valve at all times to monitor and adjust as needed. Continuously observe the pressure gauge and ensure the outlet pressure stays within the specified range. Once the regulator is fully set, slowly open the outlet valve. After the system is running normally, close the bypass valves.
(6) If the regulator uses a 2+0 configuration (one active, one standby), both lines must be tested. One line should be open while the other is closed and ready as a backup. Inlet and outlet valves should alternate between the two lines. Before commissioning, pressurize the system carefully to prevent the regulator’s diaphragm and spring from being over-stressed, which could cause long-term fatigue and failure.
(7) For regulators with dual channels that automatically switch gas supply, pressure parameters must be set according to the main and auxiliary circuits. Both inlet and outlet valves should be fully open. Automatic switching requires higher performance from the regulator, with voltage regulation accuracy of ≤2.5% and closing accuracy of ≤10%.
To test the automatic switching function, simulate a fault by increasing the main line pressure until the main valve closes. This will cut off the natural gas supply. Observe whether the auxiliary line starts up according to the preset pressure. If the test passes, reset the main circuit shut-off valve and adjust the main line regulator back to its original set value. Ensure both the main and auxiliary regulators are properly set, with the main line supplying gas and the auxiliary line on standby. In case of a main line failure, the auxiliary regulator will activate, ensuring continuous gas supply. This method is commonly used in critical public and commercial gas supply systems.
(8) In series monitoring configurations, most regulators use passive monitoring, where the monitoring regulator remains fully open. This allows for real-time observation of system performance without interference.
