NTN bearing work after viewing matters
After completing the installation of NTN bearings, it is essential to perform a thorough inspection to ensure everything is functioning correctly. For smaller equipment, manually rotate the bearing to check for smooth operation and identify any potential issues such as foreign objects, scratches, or indentations. If the bearing is improperly installed, it may cause unstable torque, or excessive torque due to insufficient clearance, misalignment, or seal interference. If no abnormalities are found, the system can be safely powered on.
For larger machinery, manual rotation is not feasible, so after a no-load start, the machine should be allowed to idle. During this time, observe for vibrations, unusual noises, or any contact between rotating parts. Once everything appears normal, proceed with the power operation. Start the work at low speed under no load, gradually increasing the load according to the specified conditions. Monitor for abnormal sounds, temperature changes in the NTN bearing, leakage or discoloration of the lubricant, and other signs of trouble. If any irregularities are detected, stop the machine and inspect it carefully. In some cases, the NTN bearing may need to be removed for further examination.
The temperature of the NTN bearing is usually estimated by checking the external temperature of the housing. However, measuring the temperature of the outer ring directly through the oil hole provides more accurate results. The temperature should gradually rise during operation and stabilize within 1 to 2 hours. If the bearing is faulty, the temperature may rise sharply, indicating an abnormal condition. Common causes include excessive lubricant, too small clearance, poor installation, or excessive friction from the seal. High-speed operation can also contribute to temperature increases, especially if the bearing arrangement or lubrication method is not suitable.
Abnormal sounds from the NTN bearing can be identified using a stethoscope. Unusual noises such as loud metallic sounds, irregular patterns, or inconsistent tones may indicate problems such as poor lubrication, misalignment of the shaft or bearing housing, damage to the bearing, or the presence of foreign particles.
