Recently, the National Standard Parts Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center has taken further steps to enhance the standardization of experimental tooling. Two important publications have been compiled: the "Fastener Product Test Tooling Atlas" by the Standard Parts Performance Room and the "Fastener Product Test Mandrel Atlas." These documents have been professionally bound into books, serving as essential references for the technical catalogues of fastener test kits and tooling.
The "Fastener Product Test Tooling Atlas" and the "Fastener Product Test Mandrel Atlas" provide detailed guidance on the design and specifications of testing fixtures used in various fastener performance evaluations. They align with international standards such as ISO, HB, GJB, and ASTM, ensuring that tensile properties, fatigue resistance, shear strength, riveting performance, and torque testing are conducted consistently and accurately. The documents also specify structural requirements, dimensions, materials, manufacturing processes, heat treatment, and acceptance criteria for different types of fasteners, including external and internal thread fasteners, rivets, nails, and self-locking fasteners.
Given the wide variety of fastener types and their differing performance characteristics, the corresponding inspection methods and tooling requirements can vary significantly. To address this, the performance room organized testers to compile, analyze, and summarize various method standards. As a result, 88 sets of detailed tooling drawings were created to support mechanical performance testing of fasteners.
The implementation of these two atlases not only enhances the reliability and accuracy of test data but also ensures the repeatability and reproducibility of test results. Furthermore, they contribute to improved work efficiency and more standardized execution of testing procedures. By providing clear guidelines, these resources help laboratories maintain consistency and quality in their testing practices, ultimately supporting better product performance and safety across the industry.
