Visian: The ideal choice for feed VC
Vitamin C (VC) is one of the most unstable vitamins used in feed additives. Its activity can be significantly affected by factors such as light, heat, oxygen, inorganic salts, and humidity. As a result, losses are common during processing, usage, and storage of feed. This instability has made the stability of VC a critical concern for researchers worldwide, and it remains an essential criterion for feed and aquaculture companies when selecting VC products.
Currently, most VC products on the market suffer from issues related to stability, cost, and bioavailability. After years of research, Hangzhou Tiannong has developed an ideal solution with its Vesian series. Vesian is a coated form of L-ascorbic acid that demonstrates excellent stability across various environments and provides a sustained release effect in solution. Its bioavailability is comparable to regular VC, and it minimizes loss during feed production and application, offering significant benefits to the aquaculture industry.
The coating material used in Vesian is primarily high-melting plant-based fatty acids, which provide several advantages:
A. It directly coats the surface of vitamin C crystals, preventing them from breaking easily.
B. The capsule remains intact upon contact with water, leading to a slow and controlled release, reducing dissolution rates.
C. Being derived from vegetable fatty acids, most aquatic species can either utilize or partially metabolize the coating, enhancing its bioavailability in the body.
D. Due to the integrity of the capsule, Vesian shows better feed stability compared to most coated VC products available on the market.
A comparison of the stability between regular VC and Vesian was conducted under accelerated conditions: 70°C, high humidity, and a test duration of 36 hours. The feed used had an initial moisture content of 7.2% and increased to 10.5% after testing. The results showed that Vesian retained a much higher percentage of its original VC content compared to standard VC.
For optimal performance, Vesian is recommended to be added at different levels depending on the type of feed. The exact dosage should be determined based on specific requirements and feeding practices. By using Vesian, feed manufacturers can ensure better nutrient retention and improved health outcomes for livestock and aquatic animals.
