In the refining process, employees often come into contact with corrosive substances that may accidentally splash into their eyes. At such times, using a specialized eyewash device can quickly rinse the eyes, reducing potential damage and significantly protecting workers' health.

However, purchasing a complete eyewash system can cost several thousand yuan, or even up to nearly ten thousand. Moreover, if the equipment is damaged, the repair costs are also very high.

Liu Ximin, the general manager of the company, asked himself: With so many skilled workers in the factory, why not try to build an eyewash unit by ourselves?

After thinking it through, he decided to assign this challenging task to the inspection and maintenance workshop.

Upon receiving the assignment, the inspection and maintenance team immediately formed a research group. The team included a senior welding engineer, Han Wenjie, technician Zhang Shengchang, carpenter Yu Xianzhi, and riveter Yan Zhonglin.

During the interview, Han Wenjie joked to the reporter: “Three heads are better than one, let alone four of us!”

As soon as they decided to do it, they threw themselves into the development process. With no existing data to refer to, they studied sample eyewash units, tried to understand the manufacturing principles, drew blueprints, and created tools.

Zhang Shengchang started working on the pipe eliminator, Yu Xianzhi processed the pipe fittings, Yan Zhonglin assembled the parts, and Han Wenjie handled the welding. The four worked together seamlessly.

After just one week, the first self-made eyewash unit was successfully completed. This wall-mounted device is durable and has been thoroughly tested. It performs very well in actual use.

Compared to buying expensive eyewash systems that cost thousands or even tens of thousands of yuan, the homemade version only costs 200 yuan. This alone saves the company a significant amount of money.

During the interview, the reporter learned that the team set a goal of producing 50 self-made eyewash units. So far, 18 have already been completed.

“Now, we can make eyewashers ourselves. From now on, we don’t need to rely on others anymore,” Han Wenjie proudly told the reporter.
