World No. 1 hot sauce: wearing a gas mask

According to a report from American website Odditycentral.com on June 12th, a chef named Muhammad Karim from Lincolnshire, UK, has created what he calls the "World's No. 1 Hot Sauce." Known for his extreme culinary experiments, Muhammad had to wear a gas mask while preparing the sauce to avoid inhaling its intense fumes. The aroma was so powerful that it spread across the kitchen, forcing diners to sign a "life or death" waiver before even tasting the dish.

The 34-year-old chef, who works at the Bindi Hotel in Lincolnshire and specializes in spicy dishes, claims that his sauce measures an astonishing 12 million Scoville units—several times hotter than police-grade pepper. Not only does the chef need to protect himself with a mask during the process, but diners are also required to bring two pairs of gloves just to handle the chicken legs coated in the sauce. The heat is described as a "nuclear explosion" in the mouth, which is why Muhammad is known by the nickname "Atomic Spats." He says eating the sauce feels like having iron on your lips and never being able to remove it.

Such extreme heat comes with serious side effects, including facial paralysis, body tremors, and even internal bleeding. Many brave diners who attempt the challenge end up needing immediate medical attention. One participant reportedly sweated profusely, desperate to relive the intense sensation, though Muhammad warned that the discomfort could last over 30 minutes.

To ensure safety, anyone attempting the sauce must sign a liability waiver. The hotel staff has been trained in emergency procedures to assist guests in case something goes wrong. If someone gets too overwhelmed, they’re quickly looked after at the table until medical help arrives.

The owner of the Bindi Hotel describes the sauce as "like a weapon," emphasizing the need for strict control to prevent accidental consumption. The restaurant also hosts the "Atomic Sparring Challenge," where participants can test their endurance by eating 10 hot drumsticks in 15 minutes. Those who succeed can win £100. However, only 20 people have tried so far, and the best performance is just two chicken legs.
