This type of bearing is particularly useful in applications where regular maintenance is difficult or impossible. Porous metals offer good wear resistance and can operate smoothly without constant external lubrication. 3. **Non-Metallic Materials**: Commonly used non-metallic materials for bearings include plastics such as phenolic resin, nylon, and PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene). Plastic bearings are known for their high compressive strength, good wear resistance, and ability to function with both oil and water. They also provide self-lubrication, making them suitable for low-friction environments. However, they tend to have poor thermal conductivity, which limits their use in high-temperature applications. In addition to these materials, sliding bearings can be further classified based on design, application, and operating conditions.
