Domestic fuel oil output was 1.952 million tons in April
In April 2013, China's domestic fuel oil output reached 1.952 million tons, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics. This marked a significant monthly decline of 19.34% compared to March, but it still represented a year-on-year growth of 43.42%. For the first four months of the year, cumulative fuel oil production totaled 7.896 million tons, reflecting a 38.96% increase compared to the same period in 2012.
The drop in fuel oil output for April was primarily attributed to a decrease in crude oil processing. In April, total crude oil processing volume stood at 38.32 million tons, down 6.1% from the previous month and slightly up 2.5% year-over-year. The reduction in crude oil input directly impacted fuel oil production. Additionally, the ongoing decline in refined oil product output, combined with rising refinery losses, contributed to lower operating rates at both major and local refineries, further suppressing fuel oil production.
Looking at the year-to-date figures, the National Bureau of Statistics reported that from January to April 2013, China's total fuel oil output amounted to 7.796 million tons, up 38.96% compared to the same period in 2012. This growth can be partly explained by an increase in crude oil processing volumes. Moreover, despite weak demand for bitumen this year, refineries maintained high production levels due to the commissioning of new facilities, which significantly boosted overall output.
