The birth of the first hybrid electric vehicle in China

The fuel cell is a force to save money, but the battery saves money but does not give power. The development of electric vehicles has always faced a dilemma between fish and bears. Recently, a new product developed by South China University of Technology - fuel cell - lithium-ion battery hybrid electric vehicle, gave a solution. According to the person in charge of the project, in the future, household electric cars are expected to realize the hybrid drive of fuel cells and lithium-ion batteries, and the manufacturing cost will be controlled between 100,000 and 200,000 yuan, truly realizing the “entering the homes of ordinary people”.

Recently, a "hybrid" vehicle with both fuel cells and lithium-ion batteries was born. The car was jointly built by Huagong Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Fuel Cell Technology and an electric vehicle company in Guangzhou. At present, the car has passed the inspection of Guangzhou Kexin Bureau and the electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Zhuhai has passed more than 1,000 kilometers of road running tests.

Why create a mixture? According to Liao Shijun, the first person in charge of the project, Huagong engineers, the cost of fuel cell vehicles remains high and consumers are often discouraged. The battery cars represented by lead-acid batteries and lithium-ion batteries have low costs, but their safety is generally low. The superiority of the hybrid is that the car can run further, with a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour; the cruising range can reach 300 kilometers, which is almost double that of the battery electric vehicle; the hydrogen filling is also faster, within a few minutes. You can mess it up. “The most important thing is still a relatively satisfactory solution to the problem of acceleration and deceleration of cars and uphill and downhill slopes.” Liao Shijun said that electric hybrid vehicles use fuel cells for energy during driving, and require uphill or acceleration. Lithium-ion batteries are used as auxiliary batteries, and they are also added to achieve the "double shoulder pick" of the car power supply.

At present, this car takes a tour bus as a "testing field." If it is to achieve the power performance of an ordinary family car, such as a 1.6L displacement car, it is necessary to increase the fuel cell and lithium battery capacity to at least 8KW and 12KW respectively. Around, the cost of control for less than 200,000 yuan. "In addition to the country's car subsidies, electric vehicles are widely used, and it will not be too far away."
