Hardware industry will develop steadily in 2013
In recent years, China's hardware industry has experienced steady growth, driven by several key factors. One of the main reasons is the overall improvement in the quality of professionals working in the sector. For instance, leaders in major hardware markets, such as the head of the China Hardware City in Beijing—the country’s largest hardware market—include many individuals with advanced degrees, including doctors and postdoctoral researchers.
Another contributing factor is the enhancement of both technological and managerial capabilities. In the early stages, many domestic companies adopted foreign technologies and management practices. As a result, numerous firms have now reached a relatively high level of technical expertise and operational efficiency.
Additionally, the industry is entering a phase of transformation. China’s hardware products are shifting from mid-to-low-end manufacturing to higher-end production. This transition not only supports long-term development but also brings in advanced foreign production techniques and management models, including better raw materials and processes.
There is also a growing demand for hardware components. After more than a decade of gradual development, China has become the world's largest producer of hardware goods. Annual exports have been rising steadily, with an average growth rate of around 8%. Last year alone, the export value of hardware products surpassed $5 billion, placing it third among light industrial exports.
With the continuous improvement in manufacturing capabilities and expanded production capacity, it is expected that China's hardware industry will maintain annual growth of over 10% for the next five years. In the first ten months of this year, the total import and export volume of hardware and electromechanical products exceeded $500 billion, with a trade surplus of $7.06 billion—accounting for 64% of the national trade surplus during the same period.
