Elevators are classified by other classification methods

Depending on the location of the machine room, elevators can be categorized into different types. The upper machine room is located at the top of the hoistway, while the lower machine room is situated at the bottom. There are also in-hoistway machine rooms, where the elevator machinery is integrated within the shaft itself.

When classified by car size, elevators are often described using terms like "small," "medium," or "super large." Additionally, there are specialized configurations such as double-deck elevators, which allow for more passengers to be transported efficiently in high-rise buildings.

Special Elevators

(1) Inclined elevators operate along a sloped track inside an inclined shaft, serving both transportation and sightseeing purposes. They have become increasingly popular in mountainous regions where land is limited, offering a practical and scenic way to move between different levels.

(2) Elevators designed for three-dimensional parking systems vary depending on the structure of the parking lot, ensuring efficient vertical movement of vehicles in compact spaces.

(3) Construction elevators are essential in building sites, using gear rack and pinion mechanisms (or chain drives and steel wire ropes) to lift people and materials vertically or at an angle. These elevators are also used in warehouses, ports, towers, and chimneys for long-term vertical transport.

(4) Firefighting elevators are specifically designed to assist firefighters and carry equipment during emergencies, providing safe access to higher floors during fires.

(5) Cold storage elevators are used in refrigerated environments to transport frozen goods. These elevators must meet strict sealing and waterproofing requirements for components like doors and guide rails to ensure durability in low-temperature conditions.

(6) Mine elevators are used underground to transport workers and materials in mining operations, designed to withstand harsh and hazardous environments.

(7) Special-purpose elevators are built for unique conditions, such as explosion-proof, corrosion-resistant, or heat-resistant models, tailored for industrial or extreme environments.

(8) Slide elevators are installed within buildings and often run parallel to sidewalks or structures, allowing for smooth vertical movement in urban settings.

(9) Aircraft elevators in airport hangars lift heavy aircraft weighing tens or hundreds of tons vertically to the runway, enabling efficient movement of large aircraft in confined spaces.

(10) Door lift elevators are used in large gantry cranes, transporting staff and parts through the crane’s door mechanism, facilitating maintenance and operations.

(11) Escalator-style seat elevators feature a motor-driven chair that moves up and down along a stairway's guide rail. Users control the chair via a button on the handle, making it ideal for public spaces and shopping centers.
