A seated maintenance worker without a seat belt
At approximately 12:30 PM yesterday, a tragic accident occurred at Hongjia Building, located at 388 Fushan Road in Pudong. A 29-year-old maintenance worker was repairing a neon light strip on the 29th floor when he accidentally fell to the ground floor and was pronounced dead at the scene. The fall also resulted in an injury to a security guard working at the building.
According to a white-collar employee who was having lunch around the time of the incident, they heard a muffled sound coming from outside their office window. When they looked out, they saw a man lying motionless on the ground floor. There was no sign of movement, and the situation quickly turned into a shocking moment for everyone nearby.
A staff member who was present in the building at the time described how the fallen worker struck a security guard during the fall. "I was sitting on the ground and couldn’t move my right shoulder," said the injured security officer, surnamed Liang. "He directly ran into me while I was walking in the lobby." Liang was taken to the hospital for treatment, and his right shoulder injury is currently under observation, with further medical confirmation still required.
Emergency services, including police and an ambulance, arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. Despite their efforts, the maintenance worker was found dead on the spot. Authorities are now investigating the cause of the accident.
According to preliminary findings by the Pudong Safety Supervision Department, the victim was preparing to repair the neon light system on the 29th floor when he fell from a height. It is reported that he was not wearing a safety harness at the time. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, and more details are expected to be released in the coming days.
